Guidelines for Student Participation in Short-term Off-Campus Activities

Short-term Off-campus Study and Embedded Class Trips are not a requirement of any class. In instances where these experiences are available, the opportunity to participate is a privilege and under certain circumstances, students will not be approved to participate. Please note the following:

  • All students will be checked for academic status. Students who are on any level of academic probation as well as students whose grade point average fell below 2.0 in the previous semester will not be approved to participate in these activities.
  • Students who were on any type of Leave of Absence, or were not otherwise on-campus (or participating in an approved global study program), in the semester prior to the short-term program/embedded trip will be additionally screened to determine if they will be approved to participate.
  • Students who received grades of NG or INC which are still outstanding from the semester prior to the short-term program/embedded trip will be additionally screened to determine if they will be approved to participate.
  • All students will be checked for disciplinary status. Students who are not in good disciplinary standing (which means you must not be on conduct probation) will be additionally screened to determine if they will be approved to participate in the short-term program/embedded trip.

Any of the above situations can result in the student being denied the opportunity to participate.

All student names will also be submitted to Health Services and Counseling Services so that our professional staff can be in touch with potential participants to determine if the short-term program/embedded trip is in keeping with any current treatment plan.
