Majors and Careers
Some students come to Gettysburg with a clear idea of what they want to major in, and some have no idea. Many in the first group change their minds along the way.
The Gettysburg curriculum is designed to let you explore a range of different fields to help you decide your major, which you'll do by the end of your sophomore year. Your faculty advisor and the Center for Career Development will guide you in this process and work with you to put in place a course of study that fits well with your goals after graduation.

A liberal arts education opens up a variety of career options
As you consider your career options, it's important to note that your major and your eventual career aren't necessarily joined at the hip. One Gettysburg management major is a financial advisor with Merrill Lynch, another teaches Spanish with Teach for America, and yet another works for the Cartoon Network. Biology majors go on to medical school and to the Peace Corps. Latin majors become lawyers. An English major is a partner in one of the leading Wall Street investment firms. Indeed, one of the beauties of a liberal arts education is that the breadth and depth of learning make you intellectually agile, adaptable, and prepared for success in many walks of life.
