Information about the 2017-18 FAFSA

On September 13, 2015, President Obama announced a change in how and when students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Prospective and continuing students applying for financial aid for the 2017-18 academic year will experience two changes to the FAFSA process:

  • Available earlier- October 1 (rather than January 1)
  • Includes earlier income information- 2015 federal tax information (the “prior prior” year)

We recommend that students and families utilize the IRS Data Retrieval Tool in the FAFSA to directly import completed 2015 Federal Tax information.

For special circumstances (i.e. marriage or divorce since 2015, job loss, etc.) please contact your financial aid counselor for additional guidance.
