First-Year Experience
The First-Year Experience program
The First-Year Experience program (FYE) is an extension of the five-day Orientation program, building on the themes introduced during Orientation to help students continue their transition into the College community.
The goal of FYE is to provide first-year students with the opportunity to purposefully connect with many of the communities they are a part of at Gettysburg College around topics that impact both their academic and out-of-classroom experience. In addition, it is important for first-year students to discuss their role in the community, connect with faculty and administration on a personal level, and observe their upperclass peers in roles as involved and engaged members of the community.
Focus Areas
Focus areas for the program include the discussion of:
- The shared values of the Gettysburg College community: respect, history, service, openness, community.
- Skills and information needed to achieve academic success.
- Development of strong decision-making skills.
- Building a strong personal support network within the college community.
- Getting the most from your college experience by becoming involved in meaningful programs, activities, and organizations.
