Aluka

Aluka is a not-for-profit international collaboration of educational and cultural institutions focused on building a high-quality scholarly resource of materials from and about Africa. It provides collections comprising the African Plants content area that are already available and materials in the African Cultural Heritage Sites and Landscapes content area. This content area contains multiple collections of visual, spatial, and historical material about key cultural and historical sites and landscapes in Africa, a number of which have been designated by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites, including:

  • Kilwa Kisiwani-a medieval city on an off-shore island in Tanzania
  • Lalibela, Ethiopia-capital of the Zagwe Dynasty and famous for its rock-hewn churches
  • Asante Temples located at Besease and Patakro, Ghana
  • Djenné and Timbuktu, Mali - celebrated for their mosques in Sudanic style
  • A preliminary collection of digitized photographs of African Rock Art


 

Columbia Gazetteer of the World

The Columbia Gazetteer of the World is an encyclopedia of geographical places and features. I provides an assemblage of alphabetically ordered listings of places or physical/cultural features and includes descriptions along with the listings. The Columbia Gazetteer website features advanced search options, re-sortable search results that you can download, and a new home page.

Environment Complete

Provides deep coverage in applicable areas of agriculture, ecosystem ecology, energy, renewable energy sources, natural resources, marine & freshwater science, geography, pollution & waste management, environmental technology, environmental law, public policy, social impacts, urban planning, and more. Environment Complete contains more than 1,957,000 records from more than 1,700 domestic and international titles going back to the 1940s (including 1,125 active core titles). Created exclusively for Spanish-speaking users, this full-text electronic reference tool is the first system to provide indexing, images and full text of popular Hispanic magazines -- not just translations. Also included is a thesaurus and interface that are uniquely designed for Spanish-speaking users. Informe thinks through every query in Spanish. Terms and thesaurus are based on the expressions Spanish-speakers commonly use, allowing users to easily navigate through the database without experiencing inaccurate search terms. ¡Informe! also features title annotations in both English and Spanish to help non-Spanish speaking staff to easily assist users. Students of Spanish, as well as non-native speakers can also easily access Informe's resources through this bilingual approach.


Gender Studies Database

Gender Studies Database, produced by NISC, combines NISC’s popular Women’s Studies International and Men’s Studies databases with the coverage of sexual diversity issues. GSD covers the full spectrum of gender-engaged scholarship inside and outside academia. This database includes more than 745,000 records with coverage spanning from 1972 and earlier to present.

Images of American Civil War

Photographs, Posters, and Ephemera provides a vivid visual history of a nation in crisis. Thousands of dramatic images from the fields of battle, politics, and general society allow students and researchers to experience the events, both monumental and mundane, of the war that tested and defined the core meaning of America. The database currently holds over 1400 images.

LGBT Life with Full Text

LGBT Life with Full Text contains all of the content available in LGBT Life as well as full text for more than 100 of the most important and historically significant LGBT journals, magazines and regional newspapers, as well as more than 110 full-text monographs and books. The database includes comprehensive indexing and abstract coverage as well as a specialized LGBT Thesaurus containing over 6,400 terms.

 

 


North American Indian Thought and Culture


This fifth release of North American Indian Thought and Culture contains over 119,000 pages of text and images. Included are biographies, auto-biographies, personal narratives, speeches, diaries, letters, and oral histories. When complete North American Indian Thought and Culture will include 123,000 pages of text and images.

South and Southeast Asian Literature is a searchable collection of fiction and poetry written in English by authors from South and Southeast Asia and their Diasporas. Focusing on works composed during the late-colonial and postcolonial eras, the collection will also feature author interviews and manuscript materials that will shed additional light on the rich literary heritage and emerging traditions of this region. New content is uploaded on a biweekly basis, giving users immediate access to a steadily growing treasury of classic, rare, and contemporary literature.
