Gertrude Stein

“Gertrude Stein, Gertrude Stein, Gertrude Stein", starring Bonnie Gable (Gettysburg College, 1967), is a one-woman play by Marty Martin that has become for many the essence of Gertrude Stein. Set in 1938 in Stein's
legendary Paris apartment at 27 Rue de Fleurus, from which she is being evicted, the play is highly colorful and often comic in true, eccentric Stein style.  The imaginary monologue depicts her California childhood, her studies at Harvard, her life in Paris with her brother Leo, and her discovery of Alice B. Toklas. Gertrude reminisces candidly and endearingly about the people they have entertained--Picasso, Isadora Duncan, Hemingway, the Fitzgeralds and other members of their circle, the people Stein called, "The Lost Generation". It is a revealingly personal, whimsical visit with one of the world's most influential artists.

"Me, Miss Krause, and Joan"
Written and Performed by Martha Kemper

(tickets are not necessary)

This piece reveals what goes on in an actor's homework, in search of answers to the question, "How would I play Joan of Arc?" The performance weaves scenes from the life of  Joan of Arc with scenes and people, particularly one special teacher, Alvina Krause,  from the performer's life experience. The tapestry of experiences reveals a theme: there are things so true and so eternal that no violence can kill, so real and so important they can never die. Discussion follows.
