Theatre Arts
The department offers an opportuniry to learn to understand a theatrical event as a complex unit-with literary and historical roots and translated into performance through the work of playwrights, actors, directors, and designers.
The theatre curriculum includes:
- acting
- directing
- stage design
- history and literature of theatre
- the relationship of theatre to other aspects of culture and society
Students studying theatre enjoy a wide range of performance opportunities, highlighted by several mainstage productions throughout the year in Kline Theatre, studio productions in Stevens Theatre, student-written and -staged one-act plays, and other productions.
Another important resource is the Majestic Theater, a revitalized historic landmark and former vaudeville stage, which hosts a variety of theatrical productions for the college and the surrounding community throughout the year.
The major in theatre prepares you for a career in all aspects of theatre, as well as for careers in arts administration, business, teaching, and other fields.
