Political Science

By studying political science you explore the theory and practice of politics, examining the workings of political systems in various domestic, foreign, and international settings.

The curriculum is diverse, delving into modern political ideologies and their historical roots, American and European politics, global conflict, feminist political theory, electoral politics, how democracies function, the politics of poverty, and many other issues of both historical and contemporary significance.

Few colleges are as well positioned to offer internship opportunities for students studying political science. Our close proximity to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania's capital city, and to Washington, D.C., open up an especially rich variety of internship opportunities with private- and public-sector organizations. Students also take advantage of our off-campus Washington Semester and a semester program at the United Nations.

Many students also design and carry out independent research projects with the supervision of a faculty member.

Gettysburg political science graduates have an extraordinary track record of success in a variety of areas including:

  • The nation's leading law schools and other graduate programs
  • Policymakers
  • Journalists
  • Elected officials
  • Educators
  • Corporate executives
  • Consultants
