Lincoln Elementary Activities Program
The Lincoln Elementary Activities Program (L.E.A.P) is an after-school activities program designed to provide fourth and fifth grade students with exploratory, enrichment, and remediation opportunities. The Gettysburg/L.E.A.P partnership allows college students a chance to give back to the school and community by working with young students. With volunteer instructors from Gettysburg College, the following activities have been offered: soccer, basketball, drama, foreign language instruction, tae kwon do, and art.
Service Learning
Students may work in one or more community organizations working with diverse student populations and integrate such experiences directly into their academic coursework. The education department partners with several community organizations in Gettysburg, including El Centro, Generacion Diez, and the Youth Resource Network. Students will engage in academic, cultural, and social activities through the service-learning, including tutoring, enrichment projects, and social outings. The goal is to support worthwhile community endeavors, provide education students with opportunities for working in diverse educational environments, and develop a more holistic approach (partnering between schools, community organizations and Gettysburg College) to supporting youth at risk of dropping out of school.
