Academic Advising

Academic Advising is an integral part of Gettysburg's teaching mission. As a student, you're responsible for making choices in order to shape your education in ways that are consistent with your goals and values. These choices may involve everything from deciding which courses to take to negotiating study hours with a roommate.

Gettysburg's academic advisors work closely with you to help you reflect on your goals and design a program of study and other experiences to achieve them. A good advisor-advisee relationship is collaborative, built upon mutual trust and respect.

Academic advising begins when you arrive on campus. Every first-year student works with a faculty advisor who helps you set goals, clarifies requirements and regulations, and generally works with you to make the transition from school to college as smooth as possible.

You may continue to work with your first-year advisor until you declare a major, or you may request a different advisor. After you declare a major, your advisor will be a faculty member from that department.
