Trouble Shooting Guide
If your problem is not represented here or you still have problems after trying the solution, please submit a Supporting Form at the end of the page.
1. Changes made to a page are not showing up
Reason: Changes haven't been published yet.
Solution: Go to the page on CMS, right click, publish page.
2. A page is not viewable to visitors (but viewable when logged in)
Reason: The page is restricted.
Solution: Change permission of the page. Go to the file on CMS, right click, edit, click on "Permission", scroll down to CMS_Anonymous and check the column "Read".
3. Links to documents not working
Reason: Link(s) are broken.
Solution: Relink file(s). Go to CMS, open the page containing those links, edit content, hightlight the link, change the link to the address of the document. (Podcast: How to add a hyperlink? )
4. Page not found when click on a link
Reason: Link(s) are broken.
Solution: Relink file(s). Go to CMS, open the page containing those links, edit content, hightlight the link, change the link to the address of the document. (Podcast: How to add a hyperlink? )
5. Page created is blank in Live Mode
Solution: Publish page. Right click on the file, edit, save and publish.
6. Images/Graphics go out of the container
Reason: The image is bigger than the column width
Solution:
a. If on a 2-column page, resize the image to maximum 500 pixels. (Podcast Resize an image).
b. If on a 3-column page, resize the image to 150 pixels for the third column (right column) and 320 pixels for the middle column.
7. Photo Gallery is not showing after created
Reason: Give the wrong address when create a photo gallery.
Solution: Change the path to the "folder that contains the folder with images". For example, folder "Pictures" which contains images you want to show is inside folder "My Documents". Give the path as "/.../My Documents/", not "/../My Documents/Pictures/". (Podcast How to creat a photo gallery? )
8. The page has 2 columns instead of 3 (and vice versa)
Reason: Using the wrong template.
Solution: Go to the file on CMS, right click, "Edit content", then choose the appropriate template.
9. Strange characters (like upside down question marks) are appearing in the text
Reason: HTML code issue. This usually happens when the content is copied from somewhere else.
Solution: Edit content in CMS, delete those characters, replace with correct characters. Save/Publish.
10. Can't find a piece of content
Reason: You may not have access to the content or you are not searching for the correct name of content.
Solution: Contact the author of the content to know its name and then search on CMS again. Search under a variety of names or email webhelp@gettysburg.edu.
11. The newly hired professor in my department is not showing up
Reason: Newly hired faculty members are officially hired in mid to late August. If they're not showing up by registration, contact webhelp@gettysburg.edu.
12. I need to change the description of a course listing
Reason: Courses are pulled to the website from PeopleSoft.
Solution: Contact the Registrar's Office to request course description changes.
13. A retired course is displayed on the course listing page
Reason: Courses are pulled to the website from PeopleSoft.
Solution: Contact the Registrar's Office to request course be inactivated.
