Steve James
Associate Professor of Biology

James earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Gettysburg College, a master's degree in botany from the University of Minnesota and a doctorate in cell and developmental biology from the University of Minnesota. From 1989-1992, he was an Anna Fuller Fund postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Ronald Morris at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He returned to his alma mater in 1992 and helped to establish Gettysburg College's biochemistry and molecular biology program.

James has been awarded several National Science Foundation grants to support his research in the field of genetics. He studies the role of certain genes in controlling DNA replication, particularly a gene called nimO. The study of this process is vital because of its relevance to cancer and other diseases.
