Laurence Marschall

A professional astronomer, Marschall's research includes the study of young stars in clusters and binary systems, and the study of exploding stars called supernovas. He also heads the asteroid patrol at Gettysburg College, a group of students and faculty who have located several new asteroids, and serves as principal investigator for Project CLEA (Contemporary Laboratory Experiences in Astronomy.) CLEA is a computer-assisted series of classroom astronomy exercises developed by Gettysburg College and distributed to hundreds of classrooms nationally and internationally via the Internet.
Marschall earned a bachelor's degree in engineering physics from Cornell University and a doctorate in astronomy and astrophysics from the University of Chicago. He has been a visiting scientist at Yale University and the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and a visiting professor at Boston University. He is also an active science writer who contributes articles and columns to several popular journals, as well as the author of the 1994 book, The Supernova Story.
