Downloading and Sharing of Copyrighted Material

Gettysburg College is changing the way that it addresses downloading and sharing of copyrighted material from the internet.  Downloading and sharing protected material is a violation of Gettysburg College's Network Use Policy.  Specifically, the College's network cannot be used to conduct illegal file sharing.  Typically, this includes songs, movies, games and other computer programs.

Beginning on December 1, 2006, upon receipt of a violation notice, the College will take the following steps:

1^st violation:  Student will receive written notification via email of the specific concern.  This notification will include specific instructions and steps that the student must take to resolve the issue including removal of the material, removal of ALL protected material and to avoid downloading protected material again.

2^nd violation:  Student will receive written notification via email of the specific concern. The student's personal computer will be restricted from using the College's network to access the internet for a period of 30 days.  The student will still have access to email, Angel, CNAV, library, etc., and can access the internet using College computer labs and the library.
