Acupuncture

The Gettysburg College Health Service offers acupuncture to the entire College community including, students, faculty and staff.

Renee Lehman, MS, PT, ATC, MAC is our licensed acupuncturist.  She received her Master's degree in acupuncture from the Tai Sophia Institute in Laurel, Maryland, and has been in private practice in Gettysburg since 2006.

Acupuncture originated in China about 5,000 years ago, and is the oldest continuously practiced medical system in the world.  The fundamental principles of acupuncture are to treat the person as an integrated whole in body, mind, and spirit, and to remedy the root cause of illness and disease, not only the symptom.

Acupuncture is effective for the following conditions:

  • Addictions
  • Digestive problems
  • Sinusitis
  • Anxiety
  • Headaches & migraines
  • Skin disorders
  • Arthritis
  • Infections, cold, flu
  • TMJ
  • Asthma
  • Insomnia
  • and more ...
  • Back pain
  • Menstrual disorders

  • Depression
  • Muscle & joint pain

What to expect during an Acupuncture treatment:

During the initial visit, information about your medical and family history, life situation, likes/dislikes, as well as information from a brief physical examination and pulse diagnosis are gathered.  This is a time for your concerns to be heard and understood in the context of your particular life situation.  From this visit, Renee determines the underlying energetic imbalances influencing your well-being.

At subsequent visits, a brief update of your life situation, symptoms, and bodily systems is taken.  After reading your energetic pulses, a treatment is designed to clear blocks, re-balance and build energy.
