Counseling Services

We believe that good mental health is not the absence of problems - everyone has problems at one time or another. Good mental health does, however, involve the ability to utilize appropriate resources to help resolve the problem.

It often takes some courage to step into the unknown, set up an appointment and walk through a psychologist/counselor's door. Often when you feel a need to show how competent you are, it is hard to say, "I need help." Needing help is normal and healthy and we are often a useful resource when the going gets tough.

Our staff of counselors and psychologists offers many years of experience and a genuine concern for your well being. If you seek our support you will find a safe, strictly confidential, place to talk about your concerns.

You can make an appointment by calling 717-337-6960 or by stopping by our office in the Health Center and talking to Carrol Hoover.

For after hour emergencies, please call Security at 717-337-6911.

In addition to individual and group counseling, other services provided include: -Psychiatric services, clinical hypnosis (academic/sports performance enhancement - habit cessation, etc.), educational presentations and workshops, peer education programs (CHEERS), crisis intervention, resource library with books, videos, tapes

  • All our services embrace the strictest standards of confidentiality.

Dog Days is a program in which faculty/administrators/staff bring their dogs to campus to interact with students. It is an opportunity for students who miss their dogs (and home in general!) to play with other dogs while socializing with faculty/administrators/staff. It's a great time to relax and to see the more human (or animal) side of Gettysburg College.

Dog Days is held outside the CUB (east end, facing Stine Hall),  Mondays and Thursdays, first three weeks of classes - 5:15-6:15 p.m.  (weather permitting).
