Get Experience!
|
Every Gettysburg College student has the opportunity to get hands-on experience through the Center for Career Development. Practical experience is a must in the job market and in competition for graduate school. Get everything out of your education that you can --- including experience! Internships: Make the most of your summer and get an internship! An internship is the best way for you to try out a career field and see if it is the right fit for you! These days, many employers expect students to have some type of practical experience --- position yourself nicely within the competition and get an internship! Externships: An externship is a "mini" internship that lasts 5-10 days. Ideally, you would live and work with the externship host. This experience provides a unique opportunity for you to work on a short-term project and to see how people in your career field balance work and home life. Job Shadowing: Walk in the shoes of a seasoned professional! You can shadow alumni and parents that work at places that fit your career interests and aspirations. Shadowing days are available each fall and spring break -- we can also make arrangements that suit your schedule. Mock Interviews: It takes practice to hone interviewing skills. Gettysburgians can help you improve your performance by conducting a mock interview. Mock interviews are offered on-campus, off-campus, and online. Bright Lights! Big City!: Our multi-day career seminars focus in on a specific career area and connect you with alumni and parents working in the field. You will make lasting connections, observe career experts in action, and learn more about career areas of interest. |
