Great American Cities
|
The Great American Cities Program connects Gettysburg College alumni and parents with current students in metropolitan "hubs." This program extends the Center for Career Development from our campus to your city. New York City is home to our first hub, with plans for a second in late 2006/early 2007. You can get involved and be a Hub Volunteer. In this role you will serve as an on-going volunteer for a 2-3 year term. You choose the opportunities that best fit your talents and interest. Options include: Job Shadowing Host: Let a Gettysburg College student walk in your shoes for a day! Students shadow alumni and parents at places of employment that fit their career interests and aspirations. A student will meet you at your place of work and spend the day observing you in action. Externship Host: An externship is a "mini" internship that lasts 5-10 days. Ideally, students live and work with the externship host. This experience provides a unique opportunity for students to learn how people in their desired field balance work and home life. Internship Site: The job market is competitive and internships provide students with a leg up on the competition. If your place of work could provide a substantive experience for a Gettysburg College intern, let us know and we will advertise the position and do our part to identify qualified candidates. Bright Lights! Big City!: Our multi-day career seminars focus on a specific career area and connect students with alumni and parents working in the field. Be involved as a Panelist, Case Study Coach, Site Visit Host, Meeting Space Provider, or Sponsor a Meal or Reception. Mock Interviewer: It takes practice to hone interviewing skills. Help our students improve their performance by serving as a mock interviewer. Students will travel to your place of work and go through the rigor of a job interview. This program is designed to fit into your day with minimal impact. |
